When only the best will do... Trust Big Bru!

Brutus is an English Mastiff.  He joined our family in September of 2020.  Brutus spent the first five years of his life with his original owner.  He then found himself in a rescue and later, on the streets.  We don't know how long he was on the streets, but, we do know he made it quite some distance before he finally couldn't go anymore.  

That very cold December day, he laid down in front of someone's home, tired and hungry.  That person called the animal shelter.  Luckily, a very trustworthy man answered that call and Brutus found enough trust to let him put him in the truck and take him to the shelter.  Brutus, now close to 200 pounds, was emaciated and starving.  

8 months later, I happened to go into the Shelter while at  work and I looked at the enclosure, shocked to see a pure bred Mastiff in the shelter.  Sadly, we had just lost our Saint Bernard and my heart was still broken.  I told myself "No" and went back to work.  One month later, I returned to the shelter, surprised to see that Mastiff still in the shelter.  After all, a dog like that should have had no problem finding a home, right???  That day, I asked about him and found out that he was just too reactive in the kennels to let anyone see him.  This time, I trusted my gut and went to take a look at him.  Sure enough, he was very reactive.  But, I saw a glimmer in his eye and tone in his voice that told me he had great possibility.  Plus!  He deserved a good home!  That day, I decided I would work with him and try to desensatize him and find him a home.  

I went to the shelter every day for eight weeks.  Sometimes, twice a day!  I'd spend my lunches with him, as well as my evenings.  And in no time at all, he began to trust me.  Slowly but surely, he began to show me his funny side, trusted me to rub his belly, and began to look forward to our visits.  

8 weeks later, we decided that Brutus was too big, too strong, and too smart to go into just any home.  We knew he needed structure and trust.  And that day, we decided he needed to come home with us and join our family.  

Brutus has been an amazing addition to not only our family, but our pack.  He is the true definition of a gentle giant.  

From the day he came home, I promised him he would never go hungry, he would always have a warm bed, a large yard to run around and sun bathe, and family that would love him every single day.  

From day one, my husband has always called him Big Bru.  When it came time to put a face and name to this business, there was just no one that could fill that position other than Big Bru!  He has changed our lives for the better and for that, we are grateful!
